Privacy Policy

RecapYT (“we”, “us”) is a service operated by Ankit Jaiswal, a sole proprietor based in India. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

1. What we collect

• Account: Email address. If you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture URL.
• Billing: Payment metadata (subscription status, plan, renewal date, country). We never see your full card number or UPI handle — that is processed by our payment processor.
• Usage: Anonymized counts of summaries generated, language preference, and error events. We do not log video URLs, video titles, transcripts, summary content, or chat history.
• Site analytics: Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first, cookieless analytics product. No personal identifiers are collected.

2. What we do NOT collect

• Your YouTube watch history.
• The video URLs, titles, or transcripts you summarize.
• The summary text or chat conversations the extension produces.
• Cookies for tracking purposes. We use a single session cookie strictly for keeping you logged in.

3. How we use your data

• To create and maintain your account.
• To process payments and apply your subscription benefits.
• To send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, account changes).
• To respond to support requests.
• To detect abuse and enforce fair-use limits.

4. Third parties we share data with

• Dodo Payments — our merchant of record. Handles all payment processing, GST invoicing, and refunds. Their privacy policy applies.
• AI provider — when you press T to summarize, the YouTube transcript of that single video is sent to a third-party AI provider (currently Google Gemini and/or Groq). The AI provider receives only the transcript and our prompt — not your identity, email, or account information. The AI provider’s own privacy policy governs how that transcript is handled on their side; we do not control their retention or training practices.
• Email provider — transactional email delivery only.
• Plausible — aggregate site analytics, no personal data.

We do not sell your data. We do not run ads. We do not rent or share your data for marketing purposes.

5. Where data is stored

Account and billing data is stored on secure, encrypted cloud servers operated by Contabo. Daily encrypted backups are retained for 30 days. Anything not strictly needed (e.g., transient summary requests) is discarded immediately after delivery.

6. Your rights

You can at any time:

• Export your account data — email hi@recapyt.in
• Delete your account and all associated data — from your account dashboard or by email request
• Cancel your subscription — from your account dashboard, no questions asked
• Opt out of non-essential emails (we don’t send marketing emails by default, but you can confirm)

India residents are protected under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. EU residents are protected under the GDPR. We honour data subject requests from any jurisdiction.

7. Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. All traffic is HTTPS. Database access is restricted to application servers via private network. We follow industry-standard practices for a service of this scale, but no system is perfectly secure — if we suffer a breach affecting your data, we will notify you within 72 hours.

8. Children

RecapYT is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the current version.
